National Events:

  • A special WYP2005 calendar has been distributed to universities and high schools, with planned events throughout 2005 marked on the calendar

  • National Museum of Science and Technology is preparing displays demonstrating Einstein’s discoveries and Canadian achievements opening February 17, 2005.

  • Interactive displays on CAP website.

  • The 60th anniversary CAP congress in June at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver will begin with the premiere performance of a string quartet, the composition of which was commissioned by the CAP for the occasion, followed by the Herzberg lecture, open to the public, by Clifford Will on "Was Einstein RIght".

  • A special CAP lecture tour in collaboration with the Perimeter Institute, for the public, will take place across the country in Fall 2005 featuring Clifford Will on "Was Einstein Right". This is in addition to the regular CAP lecture tour, which will highlight aspects of Einstein's legacy.

  • Special articles will appear in the CAP journal, Physics in Canada, throughout the year and a special issue will appear on physics education.

  • A special review article with Canadian authors will appear in each issue of Can J. Phys. throughout 2005.

  • A new physics undergraduate university curriculum is being prepared.

  • A special award is being given at the Canada-wide Science Fair for the best physics project.

  • EinsteinFest
    September 30-October 23, 2005 in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
    EinsteinFest explores our rapidly changing civilization at the turn of the
    century and sets Einstein's prolific contributions in context with the
    science, philosophy, politics, art and music of the day. A full spectrum of
    hands-on exhibits, educational activities, compelling lectures and inspiring
    performances examines the discoveries, brilliant minds and rich culture of
    this transformative period in history.

Provincial Events:

  • Special displays at the provincial museums of Science and Technology, e.g., Ontario Science Museum and Science North in Sudbury, Ontario

Regional Events:

  • The CAP’s Division of Physics Education will organize, in summer 2005, regional institutes for physics teachers.

  • Universities and Government Laboratories are being encouraged to place High School Science teachers in their laboratories for a few days for hands-on experience, modelled on the exsting program run by TRIUMF.

Local Events:

  • Each university/college physics department chair and national laboratory is to organize a local event.
